Summer BBQ

8th June 2018. Summer BBQ.

It was a beautiful warm and sunny evening for our summer BBQ at the Forrest's. Nearly 50 curlers, partners, family and friends turned out for a feast of burgers and chicken drumsticks, a wee drink or two and very good company. Many thanks to Alex and Susan for hosting us and to all who contributed in one way or another. The midges did make an appearance towards the end of the evening but failed to dampen anyone's spirits. Too soon it came time for the last bus and our "overseas" members had to leave for the last boat back to Scotland . Our local bus driver ,Robert Wilson , remarked that it was " quite nice to see that some of our members were actually young enough to qualify for paying a fare !"

All joking aside we are deeply indebted to Alex and Susan and to all those who donated food and raffle prizes to what was a most enjoyable evening.

Pond Cleaning BBQ.

MCC had a wonderful day up at the Bothy on the curling pond on Sunday 14th October 2018. Blue sky and sunshine with rolls and sausage (thanks Billy and Briony), other edibles and plenty of drinkables. . The pond will now fill and we hope that Jack Frost ,in his wisdom , will see fit to visit and give us good curling ice !

Argyll Quaich
Well, MCC had a great stay at North West Castle in Stranraer again. many thanks to staff and management for looking after us so well especially Gail and her team for the ice. The Argyll Quaich was presented by the Argyll Province to the MCC in 1988 on the occasion of our 150th anniversary. This year, the 30th anniversary of the competition, the winning team led by Skip David Cameron with Ann Mapes, Max Sharp and Chris Reekie. It was a close run thing with Janie Cameron's team needing to beat David to have a chance of challenging his lead after two games, but it was not to be, with the 8 ends peeled giving David the necessary points. Well done David and everyone else who played over the two days For some pictures see Fixtures tab / Argyll Quaich..

Silver Kettle
The Silver Kettle and Crerar Medal, usually our season's final excursion onto the ice was held on Wednesday 14th March 2018 at Greenacres with six teams battling it out in a round robin, playing three games of five ends each. Congratulations to Anne's team with Walter, Jim and Chris as runners up and winners of the Crerar Medal and to Elly's team (Jimmy, Fergus and Janie McK) as this year's winners of this wonderful trophy, the Silver Kettle. Our final game will be next week, playing for the Inkwell, which had to be rescheduled after the blizzards of a couple of weeks ago prevented our turning out.

So, the season is upon us and for our first foray onto the ice, Millport Curling Club Gents played for the Cunningham Quaich at Kilmarnock and the Ladies played for the Lady Margaret MacRae Trophy at the Waterfront in Greenock. Congratulations to Ann Mapes and her team of Rita, Janie Mck and Lesley and to David Cameron with Ron, Alasdair and Max. Unfortunately, the Gents were having so much fun at the Paddle Steamer that we forgot to take a picture of the presentation. The Ladies, however, were better organised.😄

A good outing for the Gents to the Waterside with lunch afterwards at Inverkip Marina - Willie, Dave, David and Richard skipped and the Cunningham Quaich was snatched with the last stone by Willie and his team, Jimmy, Jim and Henry
